Telephony and line sweeping with the REI TALAN 3.0

Not every intercept travels through the air. Telephone wires, network cables and the idle wiring inside your walls can carry a threat too.

The threat that travels along the wires

While attention turns to wireless transmitters, wired infrastructure remains a classic and underestimated vector. Telephone lines, copper pairs, structured cabling and even seemingly disused wires can be exploited to capture audio or data and carry it out of the environment.

The REI TALAN 3.0 is an analyzer dedicated to telephony and lines, designed to inspect exactly this territory. It examines what travels and what is physically connected to each pair, hunting for what should not be there.

What the TALAN investigates

The instrument brings multiple techniques together in a single device. It performs electrical measurements on the lines to detect loads and anomalies, analyzes the spectrum present in the wiring for strange signals, and employs time-domain reflectometry to map the line and reveal taps or devices inserted at points along the cable.

That reflectometry is particularly powerful: it measures how a signal behaves as it travels the cable and returns a profile of the line, exposing unauthorized connections even when they are far away and hidden inside the wall.

Live lines and dead lines

A common mistake is inspecting only the lines in use. A seemingly dead pair may have been repurposed as an exfiltration path, precisely because it goes unnoticed. A complete sweep considers all relevant wiring in the environment, active or not.

Likewise, telephone sets, exchanges and distribution points are inspected as part of the whole. The goal is to understand each line's normal electrical behavior and isolate any deviation.

Method and deliverables

Line sweeping integrates with the rest of the protocol: spectrum in the air, ORION for embedded electronics, thermal camera and physical inspection. What the TALAN finds is correlated with the other layers, reducing false positives and anchoring conclusions in technical evidence.

Every finding enters the confidential report and, when necessary, a technical or forensic assessment that supports action, including under the LGPD. At BlackSweep, discretion is the service: no client names, no traces, service by appointment, in Brazil and abroad.
